What We Offer
Belonging to Porirua branch will give you the opportunity to meet with other people with the same interests. You will have the chance to hear invited speakers talking about a wide and varied range of topics, and be able to ask other members about problems and how to solve them. You will also have access to the branch’s own resource library. The branch sometimes arranges outings to other resource centres.

There is also a wide range of resources available in the Genealogy Research Centre of the Porirua Public Library. These include births, deaths and marriages records for New Zealand, England, Wales, and some Australian states, as well as CDs and books relating to family history.
Porirua branch was established in 1993 and is affiliated to the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (‘NZSG’). The branch operates in accordance with the rules and by-laws of NZSG. The aims of our branch are the aims of NZSG that include:
- promoting the study of family history and genealogy;
- providing assistance to people wishing to complete a family history;
- encouraging the preservation of records having genealogical or historical value;
- encouraging accurate and scholarly research in to the histories of New Zealand families; and
- fostering awareness of family links and knowledge of heritage.

NZSG members have formed branches of the NZSG in their own localities to build a research community and to help one another with research questions.
